Partner Program or ZFS, the official requirements (VAT, EAN, EPR, logistics), the onboarding stages and the costs to model before you start.

zDirect is the portal Partner Program partners use to run their whole Zalando business: account, articles, orders, reporting and advertising. This guide covers how the account is set up, how articles get in, what you see in orders and reports, and the mistakes I see most often when I take over a zDirect account.
zDirect is the portal of the Partner Program, Zalando's marketplace model where you sell at your own prices. Zalando describes it like this: "With zDirect you can monitor your performance, manage your sales, and get up-to-date reporting."
It is not every partner's portal. Wholesale partners (Zalando buys the stock) work in the Zalando Retail Center. Connected Retail had its own tools, which are being retired: see the guide on how to move from Connected Retail to the Partner Program. And you don't sign up for zDirect yourself: access comes by invitation, after the agreement with Zalando.
Once you accept the invitation, setup follows a fixed order. According to Zalando Partner University (article updated 20 April 2026):
Contacts, billing and banking details (the bank confirmation must show IBAN/SWIFT and the account holder), shop details and fulfilment details. Then you send it for review.
VAT number, tax ID and fulfilment information. Approval of these details is mandatory before you can go live.
For each market you pick the outbound carrier and delivery method, and provide the local VAT ID and certificate where required, unless OSS covers it. Your EPR registration numbers for the countries that require them are also uploaded in zDirect.
Add the operational contacts and assign roles. Setup is only complete once the Company profile and every Country profile are approved.
Country profiles are where accounts stall the longest: an incomplete country blocks go-live in that market. It's better to start with a few complete markets than all of them half done.
There are three routes, and zDirect is involved in all of them:
With the zDirect UI the flow is: create the articles and their attributes, set prices with a CSV template while the articles are in review, fix prices and rejected articles, and finish with the shipping notice to ZFS. For articles that already exist, price validation takes at most one hour.
Rejected articles come back with a status code. The problem is almost always in the source data, not in zDirect: I collected the most common cases in selling on Zalando: uploading products and common errors.
If you ship yourself, the Orders overview page shows incoming and past orders in near real time, split into four tabs:
Two details that matter. If an approved order stays unfulfilled for more than 20 days, zDirect shows a dashboard alert. And Zalando advises against changing order line statuses directly in zDirect: do it in your own OMS or ERP or through your integrator, because manual changes can cause financial balance errors.
This is the part of zDirect partners use least, and the one that matters most for growth. According to Zalando, zDirect gives you:
The returns benchmark is the first number I look at: in fashion, returns decide the margin more than the commission does. A return rate above your peers usually means size charts or photos that don't tell the truth about the product.
zDirect is also where you switch on Ad Manager, the self-service tool for Sponsored Products and Sponsored Collections campaigns on Zalando: you activate it in the Marketing module and get a confirmation email within 24 hours. How it works, what it costs and how much to invest is in the guide on Zalando Ads and Sponsored Products.
"zDirect isn't where you manage the catalogue: it's where you check that the catalogue coming from your ERP works. Anyone who fixes data by hand in zDirect sees it overwritten at the integrator's next sync."
By invitation: once you agree the Partner Program with Zalando you receive the invitation, accept it and complete the Company profile, Compliance details and Country profiles. There is no public sign-up.
Yes, but only if you use ZFS. Manual creation is meant for assortments of up to about 200 articles per season. Larger catalogues need an integrator or the API.
No. Wholesale uses the Zalando Retail Center. Connected Retail had its own tools, which Zalando retires by 30 June 2027, moving partners to the Partner Program and therefore to zDirect.
In zDirect's reporting: aggregated sales with drill-downs by market, category or article. Ad Manager campaigns have their own reporting, also broken down by country.
